Bulb’s Science & Technology Director, Dr Manisha Kulkarni, completes Laboratories Health & Safety Programme at Harvard University!
Bulb’s Director of Science & Technology, Dr Manisha Kulkarni, recently travelled to Boston, to complete Harvard University’s programme on Guidelines for Laboratory Design: Health & Safety Considerations, conducted by the Center for Executive & Continuing Professional Education.
Dating back to 1636, Harvard University is the oldest university in the US and is regarded as one of the most prestigious in the world.
The programme covered a range of information on health and safety considerations in the design and construction of a laboratory including:
- Understanding how lab design options impact the health and safety of laboratory users and the environment.
- How to incorporate the needs of all stakeholders to ensure labs are safe, free of health hazards and promote a healthier environment.
- Health and Safety Considerations for diverse laboratory types and the skills required to create a safe laboratory environment.
- General laboratory challenges, as well as issues specific to chemistry, microelectronics clean room, engineering, animal, biosafety, clinical, and sustainable laboratories.
- New laboratory construction, renovation, and decommissioning
- Implications of COVID-19 on laboratory design
The course was delivered by highly experienced tutors who have been delivering this training for over 30 years.
Manisha thoroughly enjoyed the course, and the unique opportunity it provided, to not only consolidate and gain valuable knowledge, but also to collaborate with a variety of global stakeholders who work within the field of laboratories and laboratory design.
The programme included guided tours of chemistry, clean room, nanotechnology, clinical, biosafety, and animal research laboratories at leading academic and medical institutions in the Boston area.
Manisha is now able to share and apply this knowledge to her laboratory design work here at Bulb, so that we can be assured we continue to offer the best in health and safety!
